Mercer Island
An island city in Lake Washington, joined to Seattle and Bellevue by the I-90 bridges.
Mercer Island is a city on an island, which shapes everything: the shoreline wraps the whole place, and most streets end at water or at a park.
Waterfront here faces three ways, and the direction matters. East Channel homes look to Bellevue and the morning sun. West-side homes look to Seattle and the sunsets. North-end homes see both bridges.
The town centre has the shops and the library; the south end is quieter and more wooded.
What to look at in a house here
- Which way the frontage faces, and how much of the day the sun is on the water
- Dock permits and bulkhead condition
- Slope: many view lots are steep, which affects access and future building
Schools
Mercer Island is served by the Mercer Island School District. Check boundaries with the district directly; they change.
